Tennessee Marketing Graduate Degree Programs

University of Tennessee Knoxville
The University of Tennessee Knoxville’s College of Business Administration allows students to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in one of several concentrations, including marketing. The full-time program takes 17 months (five semesters) to complete with the first year dedicated to core business coursework and the second year focusing on the marketing concentration. MBA students spend the first week of the program on campus daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during “Orientation Week” and all participate in a global business course, culminating in a trip abroad. All MBA students must also complete a summer internship. Graduate students can become involved in the on-campus organizations, Shopper Marketing Forum, Tennessee Organization of MBAs, and the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Vanderbilt University
Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management confers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a marketing concentration. The full-time two year program requires students to complete core MBA coursework the first year before focusing on marketing courses the second year. All first year requirements must be fulfilled before MBA students can take any electives or courses in their concentration. Marketing majors will take two required courses (survey design and analysis and consumer analysis) before choosing from a menu of marketing electives: marketing strategy, advertising, business forecasting, and marketing models. The MBA program ensures students engage in experiential learning, offering programs such as BrandWeek, in which MBA marketing students work with companies in a three-day immersion seminar and international seminar courses, in which students travel abroad for a week to visit universities and businesses in the host country.

Tennessee Marketing Undergraduate Degree Programs

Middle Tennessee State University
Middle Tennessee State University’s Jennings & Jones College of Business features a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a concentration in marketing. Marketing majors will complete 27 credit hours in marketing coursework. Required courses include consumer behavior, marketing research, and marketing management. Students then choose their electives based on their career interests with specializations available in promotions, retail, sales, and business-to-business marketing. The marketing department encourages students to complete a 225 hour internship, worth three credits, at a local company, and interns are required to complete a paper detailing their experiences and what they learned. Pi Sigma Epsilon and Students in Free Enterprise are two on-campus organizations popular with students in the BBA program.

East Tennessee State University
Undergraduates working toward a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at East Tennessee State University can choose from one of three marketing concentrations: marketing management, integrated marketing communications, and merchandising. Both marketing management and integrated marketing communications require students to complete 24 credit hours of marketing coursework with merchandising requiring 31 credit hours of marketing courses. Successful applicants to the BBA program must first complete 60 credits of core college credits, including accounting, statistics, critical thinking and writing, and probability and statistics. Marketing majors often become involved in on campus organizations such as the Marketing Association, Beta Alpha Psi, the Entrepreneurs Club, and Students in Free Enterprise.

I liked the smaller feeling of a large program, but I disliked the lack of earned experience. Internships were not required and I feel that perhaps they should have been. The curriculum was classically-based but was also adapted for modern application.
