Undergraduate marketing students at Northeastern University earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) from the university’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. The marketing program offers two educational models for the completion of the degree: a five-year cooperative (co-op) educational model and a four-year co-op model. The five-year program has three co-op periods in which marketing students gain practical marketing or business experience by working or interning at an established company for six months at a time. I also enjoyed the management core which provides a well-rounded experience in all areas of business, including marketing, operations, accounting and finance. The marketing core classes provide a general in-depth overview of different areas of marketing. My only criticism is my market research class, which was taught by an inexperienced grad student who was easily flustered. I took electives in E-commerce, account management and social media. These classes were case-based and allowed me to use classroom skills in a simulated environment. There were many opportunities for group projects and presentations, which allowed me to hone these skills for a future career. If new to the program, I would do my research on the professors and avoid classes by graduate students. There are many elective options based on which area of marketing you wanted to pursue. I was interested in account management and found ample classes for that topic.
